Camera: color, widescreen : Robert Richardson. Of course, as most people know, the real-life figures living next to Rick Dalton are the most controversial ones— Rafal Zawierucha and. The movie captures how Hollywood, by 1969, was a head-spinningly layered place. However, the violence that precedes it threatens to pull the entire film apart and will for some people. If only there were more like him. Margot Robbie was completely underused, but Pitt's character was well written and acted.

A terrible plot that takes forever to unfold and ends like a B-movie that I have to watch in full-color 4k. Cue the hippies: The Manson gang figures into the story, mostly as a lingering threat as Cliff locks eyes with a seductive young woman named Pussycat Margaret Qualley on more than one occasion as he roams around town. Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don't recognize anymore. Most characters are static and have 0 reason to be there. If you look at Once Upon a Time in Hollywood you'll be slightly annoyed by the opening statement. No drama, comedy, action, thrilling events.

Review: Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time...In Hollywood

once upon a time in hollywood review

The ninth film from the writer-director features a large ensemble cast and multiple storylines in a tribute to the final moments of Hollywood's golden age. After soaking adults in blood, in film upon film, Tarantino turns out to be great with kids. In conclusion, my guess is that this movie is for Tarantino fans, those people who already consider him a genious and a visionary and therefore can analize every little scene looking for hidden meaning and symbolism. It's the best we've seen from him in years, and his quietly tough-as-nails stunt double is a choice role that provides some welcome air-punching moments. Most of the other characters have their moments but he is in my opinion the one who shines the brightest.

Moments later, the film jumps headfirst into a whole new sphere of madness altogether. In another, Sharon spots a cinema which is playing her latest film — The Wrecking Crew with Dean Martin — so she goes in and watches it. Mixing fact with fiction, as he did in Inglourious Basterds, Tarantino includes Sharon Tate Margot Robbie , a radiant blonde starlet who has just moved in next door to Rick with her husband Roman Polanski Rafal Zawierucha in the blue suit and white ruffled shirt we now associate with Austin Powers. She lays her head in his lap as he drives. I found the plot difficult to follow, and it feels like it goes nowhere.

At heart, the film is a reactionary macho fantasy in which nothing and no one can beat a hard-drinking, chain-smoking, two-fisted, middle-aged white guy. Beyond that, there are fun glimpses of Steve McQueen Damian Lewis and Bruce Lee Mike Moh , a brief and chaste party at the Playboy Mansion, and some amazingly long excerpts from the Western Rick is shooting. This ends up meaning we have a long, long movie where roughly 50% of it is enjoyable. Viewers come to see you as expendable. You will receive a weekly newsletter full of movie-related tidbits, articles, trailers, even the occasional streamable movie. For Tarantino, however, records are made to be broken. Hitler got destroyed, and the Americans won.

Join on Facebook, a community for film fanatics all over the world. A lot of scenes are meaningless and are not even entertaining, they seem to serve no purpose. Overall it was funny and the cast was terrific. Which is, in fact, what happened. Rick has an offer on the table, from a shrewd if scuzzy agent Al Pacino , to shoot a Western in Rome. Tarantino is in his element and he doesn't appear to be losing anything over time. The final sequence of the film is so great it almost justifies everything leading up to it, but I would not want to watch this film again based on the runtime and fluff alone.
